Stephen Gill's talking to ants is a series of instant collages created by putting objects of the surrounding area behind the camera lens. This technique creates a straight photographs with an air of surrealism to them. The way the atrifacts react with the environment, in the image, relies on the chance of the two playing off each other succesfully. In some cases opaque objects frame the heads of subjects, in others twigs seem to blend into the air of the landscape.
The indexical nature of the objects Gill chooses gives the images a deeper connection to place and subject.
